Farewell to Kabosu!
The Original DOGE
The internet is a strange and wonderful place, filled with fleeting trends and unforgettable icons. One of the most iconic, the DOGE meme, said goodbye to its real-life counterpart on the 24th of May. Kabosu, the Shiba Inu with a knowing face that launched a million internet jokes, has passed away at the age of 18. Much sad. Many tears.
Kabosu’s journey to internet stardom is like a fairy tale for the digital age. Rescued in 2008 by Atsuko Sato, a kindergarten teacher, Kabosu's life story began humbly. Sato started a blog to share pictures of her pets, and in February 2010, she posted an unassuming update featuring Kabosu. Little did she know, one of those pictures would eventually be seen by the entire internet.
From government agencies to weather apps, the DOGE meme has graced all corners of the digital world. It even inspired Dogecoin, a joke cryptocurrency that gained unexpected popularity, partly thanks to Elon Musk’s promotion. Kabosu, with her suspicious, amused, almost human expression, became the logo and heart of this digital phenomenon.
Despite her internet fame, Kabosu lived a tranquil and happy life away from the chaos of crypto lawsuits and meme fame. Sato described her as gentle and calm, a Shiba Inu who loved being photographed. Wow. Much perfect. Very missed.
In a heartfelt message, Sato announced Kabosu’s peaceful passing:
"To all of you who loved Kabosu,
On the morning of the 24th of May, Kabosu crossed the rainbow bridge. Thank you all so much for your support over the years.
She went very peacefully without suffering, as if falling asleep while feeling the warmth of my hands petting her.
Thank you all so much for loving Kabosu all these years. I am certain that Kabosu was the happiest dog in the world.
That makes me the happiest owner in the world.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to everyone who has sent us much love to us."
So here's to Kabosu, the little Shiba Inu with a big heart and an even bigger impact. You brought joy, laughter, and a bit of whimsy to the internet. Rest in peace, sweet DOGE. Much love, very remembered, so cherished.
